Big improvements are on their way! On December 11, 2014, the Austin City Council approved an over $4 million Shoal Creek improvement project. This project will close an existing gap in the Shoal Creek trail just south of the West 5th Street bridge along the west side of Shoal Creek. Along with facilitating better connectivity through downtown Austin, this project will include:

  • Installation of a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge across Shoal Creek
  • Lighting along the new trail and under the bridges between West 5th Street and West Avenue
  • Relocating the existing wastewater lines out of the creek
  • Restoring and stabilizing the stream bank

The project will begin in March and is projected to be completed by Fall of 2016. This is a major step forward for improvements along the downtown trail. We are very excited for what lies ahead!
