Meet the Spring 2016 SCC Team

January 30, 2016  | By Shoal Creek Conservancy

We have some exciting changes to announce at the Conservancy. We have moved to a new office space, thanks to Cirrus Logic, and have added new members to the team. Returning as our development intern is Lucy Huang, who will be working hard on our membership and grants. Joining us for the first time are Carolina Treviño and Shelby Acosta. Carolina will be managing our social media and all things communications, while Shelby, our volunteer intern, will be busy planning our walking tours and volunteer days. We’re looking forward to continuing improving Shoal Creek with the new team! Get to know Lucy, Carolina, and Shelby a little more below.

Lucy Huang, Development Intern

Lucy, returning to the Conservancy for another semester, is a 2nd year Management Information Systems major at UT Austin. She was drawn to the Conservancy because of her interest in nonprofit development, and liked that the Conservancy targeted watershed issues near West Campus, where she has experienced flooding near her apartment multiple times. Lucy is most looking forward to helping organize this year’s Shoal Creek Awards and celebrating the accomplishments of our volunteers and donors. Her favorite thing to do around Austin is hiking, especially at Pedernales Falls. We’re glad to have Lucy back!

Carolina Treviño, Communications Intern

Carolina is an Advertising major at UT Austin. She was attracted to the Conservancy because of the room to grow and learn in a young organization, and the chance to help out in a variety of ways extending beyond communications work. She is also excited to be a part of improving and beautifying Shoal Creek, and helping the cause in any way possible. Carolina, like Lucy, is looking forward to the Shoal Creek Awards and joining in on one of our famous walking tours. Her favorite thing to do around Austin is to eat at all the incredible restaurants, and hunting for the best restaurants in town. Pro tip from Carolina: try the al pastor tacos at La Mexicana Bakery on South 1st. You can thank her later. Welcome to the Conservancy, Carolina!

Shelby Acosta, Volunteer Intern

Shelby is a Geography major and Spanish minor at UT Austin. She was originally drawn to the Conservancy for the work in protecting an integral part of Austin and to apply her education as a Geography student to the work done at the Conservancy. Shelby is most excited about getting the community involved in protecting and improving Shoal Creek. Her favorite thing about Austin is the fact that there’s always something new and fun to do around the city! We’re excited to have Shelby join the team.

Be sure to welcome the team at one of our next events on the trail!
